  • 14 Jun Meet Our New Sponsor

We are delighted to introduce our new sponsor Bayside Exercise Physiology.   Ryan Woodward, the founder of Bayside Exercise Physiology, offers members and guests of Hampton RSL a new approach to treating chronic health issues and injuries. It is a holistic approach using scientific research to prescribe specific exercises for people suffering from chronic conditions such as arthritis, osteoporosis, back pain, COPD, diabetes, depression, anxiety, heart disease and cancer.   Exercise programs are supervised 1:1 with a healthy dose of education to help establish correct movements to increase the efficiency of how your body works. “We do not just look at what the issue or complaint is, but also why it is there and how we can treat it in the long-term to prevent re-occurrence,” Ryan says. Working with an exercise......

  • 18 May Do you really know what your limit is?

All of our bar staff are trained to recognise when a patron has had too much to drink. But HRSL has gone one step further. We have now installed an on-site breathalyser which gives patrons control over their own blood alcohol content and on those rare occasions, supports bar staff decisions to stop serving alcohol. When customers actually see their blood alcohol concentration (BAC), they are less likely to get into their car and drive.   With so many influencing factors influencing breath alcohol content, the emphasis now is on public breath testing, not on counting your drinks or understanding the confusing standard drinks policy.   The Victorian State limit is now 0.049g/100ml. In excess of this, the penalties are severe. Counting drinks or estimating what a “standard drink” is......

  • 22 Apr War and Music : 10 Of The Best

Mix Anzac Day with music and plenty of tunes, songs and singers spring to mind. Synonymous with Anzac Day is The Last Post, the most moving and emotional sound of all – that never fails to firmly place us into a state of reflection – from the first sound of the bugle, through the one minute of silence that follows it.   The Vietnam War that was a dominant subject of the rock and folk scene of that era. But there have been many songwriters and singers who have taken a longer view back to World Wars I and II and some who have written about more recent wars.   In honour of all who have served and continue to serve, here is a list of 10 popular songs about......

  • 01 Apr Field of Remembrance / Children’s Anzac Service

The ANZAC “Field of Remembrance” is an annual commemoration held at Hampton RSL. The event involves the planting of white wooden crosses in remembrance of those who have died due to their involvement in war. The ‘Field’ is an area of lawn laid out in front of the cenotaph at the front of Hampton RSL. A fine example of our Lone Pine, a seed of which was brought back and planted by one of our WW1 Veterans, is an impressive curtain for the setting. The crosses are planted in this symbolic lawn, each with a message, and some with a poppy attached.   The “Field Of Remembrance” ceremony is now combined with the Hampton Rotary Children’s Anzac Day Service for local schools and will be held on Friday 21 April, commencing at 10.00am at......

  • 24 Mar BAYSIDE BRIDGE CLUB HAS A NEW HOME AT HAMPTON RSL

Hampton RSL is enjoying having the Bayside Bridge Club each Wednesday and Friday.   The Bayside Bridge Club is a thriving (large) group of Bridge players and some of us didn’t realise just how many people actually love to play this intricate card game. It has been said you never stop learning how to play Bridge – so, if you’ve ever had a yearning to keep your brain active, long time, why not make an inquiry and come along and play.   Each day seems to grow in numbers (almost 100 now) and whilst it is a serious and silent business while the games are on, it is so nice to have such a dedicated group join us. Currently the group uses the Bistro area and we are now planning on......
