“GHOST” – A Very Special Dog Sponsored by Hampton RSL

Hampton RSL is proud to support and donate funds to Defence Community Dogs – dogs that are highly trained and then matched with veterans suffering PTSD.   The Defence Bank Foundation provides the funding for Defence Community Dogs so that rescued dogs can be trained as Companion Therapy Dogs.   Defence Community Dogs manages the PTSD training at Bathurst Correctional Centre under the guidance of dog trainer, Steve Austin.   Defence Community Dogs train each rescued dog to the level of “Advanced Community Therapy Dog” before they are given to the veteran so that the dog is able to recognise the symptoms of PTSD and support the veteran from the day they receive their dog.   The advanced training is expensive ($7,500 per dog) but it is now known that veterans suffering PTSD will cope better with a...
