One of Bayside’s best kept secrets?

Tucked away in a small residential pocket just across the road from the beach where New Street meets Beach Road, is the Hampton RSL. In fact, HRSL has occupied this site at 25 Holyrood Street, Hampton since May 1952, when the old homestead “Wearside” was purchased. Over the decades the appearance has changed and continues to develop but our core values still stand.   Within the club we have seen the arrival and riddance of poker machines, the growth of sporting clubs within the Hampton RSL Sub branch, the continued support of welfare and care of our veterans and the staunch belief that we are a community club – a hub for the Bayside community to come and enjoy the available spaces, opportunities for involvement and a place to enjoy great music...

With the sale of a parcel of HRSL land last year, much-needed funds have finally manifested which allows us to carry out some important and essential upgrades.   Some upgrades, although unseen are foundational...

We have now installed an on-site breathalyser which gives patrons control over their own blood alcohol content and on those rare occasions, supports bar staff decisions to stop serving alcohol. When customers actually see their blood alcohol concentration (BAC), they are less likely to get into their car and drive.   With so many influencing factors influencing breath alcohol content, the emphasis now is on public breath testing, not on counting your drinks or understanding the confusing standard drinks policy.   The Victorian State limit is now 0.049g/100ml. In excess of this, the penalties are severe. Counting drinks or estimating what a "standard drink" is presents too many inaccuracies....
