Irma Harper Creates a Bowling Club Record

On Sunday, 6 March, Irma Harper created a Bowling Club record by being the first woman to win the Club’s 100 UP Championship. Irma beat John Machell 100/80 in eighteen ends. It was a very exciting match, with excellent bowling by both players. Congratulations Irma – a great achievement.

John Machell Takes Out the Bowls Minor Championship

It was cold and windy on Friday afternoon, 4 May when John Machell and Leo Weickhardt played the final of the Bowling Club’s Minor Championship. It was a very close match with John winning 25 to 23.

Award to Billi and Colin Barnes

It was very fitting that a major award was presented on one of the RSL’s most important days, ANZAC day, to Billi and Colin Barnes in appreciation of their outstanding service, friendship and support of the Hampton RSL.

Billi and Colin work tirelessly for the Club. You can see them both at the Club almost every day:

Billi helping with many of the Club’s activities and functions, selling raffle tickets at pennant and social bowling games and helping Club staff;
Colin can always be seen tending the gardens and bowling green, and doing repairs and maintenance;
both of them participating in the Club’s various bowling activities.

ANZAC Day

Thank you to everyone who braved the cold and came to the Dawn service which was held inside the club due to the poor weather. It was a very large crowd of people who had come to honour and remember their fellow citizens who had been in many theatres of war.

The club was also packed with people during the day, just having a social drink and chat, competing in the social bowling competition or playing Two Up – a very popular event that was still going at 7.00 pm.

Thank you to the troop of energetic Scouts who manned their barbeque, selling sausages and hamburgers.

Local talents Matt Roney and Petrus Humme have brightened up Hampton with their latin inspired funk and blues for many years, having played regularly at Urchin Bar’s Wednesday night drinks and Friday nights at the Brown Cow for several years.

It has been a while since they have been at the Hampton RSL but as many will remember we had a blast!

There is no cover charge and this music feature will follow our regular members night. All are welcome!

John Holmes Fours Memorial Challenge

This event was held on Sunday, 25 March 2012.

Sixteen teams, representing a number of bowling clubs, competed to win three cash prizes of $1,000, $360 and $160. It was an excellent day, fine and sunny and colourful.

We would like to thank our Sponsor - Shane Oswald Shipping Consultants (SOS) for their contribution in making this a very successful competition.

Hampton RSL Newsletter, February – March 2012

$1,000 Draw – Sunday, 1 April 2012

It was a great day at the $1.000 Draw – our largest annual fundraising event, with more than 150 people coming and going throughout the day.

The BBQ lunch was great, thanks to our three chefs and the members who set up the lunch, made the salads and cleaned up afterwards.

The band ‘CRUZE’ played throughout the day and was outstanding, with many favourites from the 60′s to 90′s.

The raffle was a great success with over 350 tickets sold. Names were drawn out during the day until only two people were left standing. They split the prize so $500 each went to Geoff Coombe and Nadia Corcoran-Vella. Congratulations.

The barefoot bowling competition was hotly contested with the winners being the Jim Jams.
